Westside Optometry Issue No. 53
“Enhancing lives with personalized vision care”
Dear Karen,
Westside Optometry has added and updated the eyewear collections we offer. Modo was introduced in February and has light weight styles for men and women. The Gucci line underwent changes, but is back more beautiful than before. Both brands offer fashion sunglasses that are excellent for most prescriptions.

Digital Eyestrain
The term Digital Eyestrain has replaced the term Computer Vision Syndrome due to the increase in types of digital devices. Digital Eyestrain is defined as “physical discomfort of one’s eyes after spending periods of time throughout the day in front of a digital device, such as a computer or smartphone.”
One simple technique to reduce eyestrain is to apply the 20-20-20 rule. Take a 20 second break from the screen every 20 minutes and look at something at least 20 feet away. Make sure you blink a few times too.

Are Expensive Sunglasses Worth it?
Sunglasses not only offer a cool look, they offer protection from damaging ultraviolet radiation. Quality sunglasses are more expensive and worth the investment because of the premium optics, coatings, frames and style.
Wearing quality sunglasses reduces glare and strain from the sun providing clear comfortable vision.
Don’t skimp on your sunglasses. You deserve the best comfort, protection and style.

Fast Facts
Ongoing research suggests the popular Mediterranean diet, with its heart-healthy menu of plant-based foods, oils, fish, lean meats and whole grains, could reduce the risks of developing macular degeneration by more than one-third.
Successful treatment of dry eyes requires that you are willing to follow the doctor’s instructions and that you use the products she recommends as prescribed.
