Do you feel like there is too much waste with your contact lenses and the packaging?
You’re not alone. Due to FDA regulations and the necessity of sterility and safety of all medical devices, there is a lot of plastic and materials protecting the small vision correcting device.
Fortunately, TerraCycle® has created a recycling program to divert the waste from landfills. TerraCycle® is a world leader in the collection and repurposing of hard-to-recycle post-consumer waste.
If you don’t want to set up an account, you can bring your used contacts, blister packs and top foils to the Westside Optometry office. We have a receptacle that you can toss your empty blister packs and used contacts. Recycle the paper products and cardboard packaging as you normally do.
And please protect our watery environment, NEVER wash your lenses down the sink, or flush in the toilet. The plastic accumulates in our oceans and is detrimental to the ecosystem.
